Troubleshooting

Sensors stopped logging, events not showing up, the WP-admin upgrade card, and what to do if you lost a site key.

Sensors stopped logging

Once active, the plugin rechecks its key against the backend once a day. If a key is revoked or a site is paused in the dashboard, sensors detach automatically — usually within a day, without you touching WP-admin. A network hiccup or a backend outage during that daily check never turns logging off by itself; only an explicit rejection from the backend does.

To confirm what the plugin currently thinks is true:

Terminal
wp hellolog status

License: reads active (sensors attached) or inactive — run wp hellolog test to validate. If it's inactive:

Check the site isn't paused or the key isn't revoked

In the dashboard, open the site and confirm it's active and the key you have stored is still listed.

Re-key if needed

Rotate a new key from the dashboard (up to two active keys per site, so there's no gap) and paste it into Tools → helloLOG → Settings.

Verify it

Click Send test event, or run:

Terminal
wp hellolog test

A successful response is the only thing that flips a stored key back to active — saving a key alone doesn't attach sensors.

Events aren't appearing

Every tracked event is written to a local queue table first ({prefix}hellolog_queue) and shipped to the backend on a schedule, so a delay of up to a minute is normal. Work through it in order:

Terminal
wp hellolog status # pending / sending / dead counts
wp hellolog flush # send the queue now instead of waiting
wp hellolog test # confirm the backend still accepts the key
  • Nothing queues at all — sensors are detached; see Sensors stopped logging above, and check whether the sensor you expected is disabled under Tools → helloLOG → Settings → Filters (or wp hellolog sensors).
  • Rows sit in pending — the scheduled flush drains the queue every 60 seconds; wp hellolog flush skips the wait.
  • Rows pile up in dead — the backend rejected them, most often a bad or revoked key. Fix the key first, confirm with wp hellolog test, then move the pile back onto the queue:
    Terminal
    wp hellolog requeue-dead      # dead -> pending
wp hellolog flush # send them now

The WP-admin log view shows an upgrade card instead of my logs

That's expected on the Free plan. Logging itself is unaffected — every event still ships to the backend and shows up in the dashboard — but the Activity Log tab under Tools → helloLOG in WordPress renders a card pointing at the dashboard instead of the events table. The read API and MCP are gated the same way. See Plans & limits for what each tier unlocks, or Plugin settings for the rest of the Tools → helloLOG screen.

I lost my site key

There's no "reveal" for a site key — recovery is rotate, not recover. A key is only ever displayed at creation time in the dashboard; only its hash is stored afterward, so a key that's gone is gone. From the dashboard, generate a new key for the site (up to two active at once, so the old one keeps working while you switch), paste it into Tools → helloLOG → Settings, and confirm with Send test event or wp hellolog test to activate it right away.
